Make a statement with a unique feature wall

A room can really benefit and come to life with a key focal point – and we have news for you, it doesn’t need to cost you a stack of cash. In fact, a feature wall can provide you with a quick and low-cost way to make a big difference to a room. DM Design, fitted bedroom specialists, has created a list of their top tips of getting a feature wall right.

Bring a room to life
Bringing the outdoors indoors can really put life into the room. Live plants are becoming a prominent feature in the home. Monopolise on this trend with a green, plant-based feature wall. This can be achieved through a printed wallpaper (think tropical leaves or wildflower prints) or add custom shelving to hold a selection of potted plants.

Life mottos
Applying wall stickers to a wall can transform your wall almost instantly into a statement feature. Wall stickers come in all varieties, from beautiful trees, words and mottos, to more quirky pieces. Wall stickers are also a great choice for children’s bedrooms, with playful designs available to please any child.

The brighter the better
Stay away from dull colours when designing your feature wall – you want to make a statement, so look for a bright and bold colour you love. It may be too much for a whole room, but that’s the point. A feature wall aims to stand out. This works particularly well if the rest of the room is neutral, with subtle accents of that colour.

Make it unique – and personal
Another way to approach designing a feature wall is choosing an image that you like, or that means something to you and have it blown-up for your feature wall. Whether there’s a photo that you love, a landscape – or you’ve chosen something from a wallpaper provider – a photo-based wall mural can completely transform a room into something very personal.

Display your memories
You can easily create a feature wall from something as simple as using a variety of photo frames to showcase your favourite memories on your wall. The key here is that the frames themselves are just as important as what goes in them. Decide what you want to frame, then you have the choice: opt for the same size and arrange in an ordered fashion – or get mismatched frames and arrange them in a more haphazard way.
